AN ANTHOLOGY OF THE QUOTIDIAN

INSTALLATION, 2013

Centre d'exposition de Val-David, Quebec

An Anthology of the Quotidian attempts to document a infinite narrative of everyday life, through a collaborative and fragmented journal. Set up as a site-specific live installation, each viewer is invited to type out a piece of text onto the typewriter, which has been fitted with a single spool of paper. Looping infinitely, this möbius strip becomes engulfed by text over the course of the exhibition, as more and more people engage with the typewriter. Following the Surrealists' model of the Exquisite Corpse, each new text continues along from where the last person has stopped, the final spool of text growing denser each day. Engaging with journaling as an everyday activity, the final anthology would thus, become a palimpsest, absorbing ideas, prose, poetry, ramblings and notations from all those who participate.
